Admission Requirements

Master of Science - Counseling Psychology

 In addition to the general admission requirements for all graduate programs, you are required to meet the following criteria:

  1. You must have completed a baccalaureate degree at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (verified by an official transcript) with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If you have NOT earned at least a 3.0 GPA, you must submit a minimum score on the general GRE of 300 or MAT score of 410. Scores below these thresholds can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  3. Selected students will be invited to an interview.  In person interviews are preferred but in special circumstances telephone interviews may be conducted. The purpose of the interview is to provide another source of information regarding the applicant’s appropriateness for training as a counselor.

  4. Undergraduate preparation must include the following courses for a total of 15 credit hours (or their equivalent as determined by the Psychology Admissions Committee):

    1. Introduction/General Psychology
    2. Psychological Statistics or Research Methods
    3. Developmental Psychology (Child, Adolescent or Adult)
    4. Abnormal Psychology (Adult or Child)
    5. Test and Measures (can be completed as part of the program)
    6. Elective in Psychology

  5. Application Deadline: February 15 for the Fall semester. Degree program admission occurs every fall semester. Applications can be accepted after the deadline but admission can only be considered if the cohort has not been filled.

  6. Note: Some internship sites may require a criminal background check prior to approving students for the internship placement. This occurs in the third year of the program.
